Any thoughts on the Canon 28-135mm IS USM 3.5 versus the Sigma 24-70 2.8 EX Aspherical (besides zoom range). Please tell me some good things about the Sigma because I really like what I have read about it (and the price).

I have the sigma 28-70 right now & has used it for the past 8 months. With film I had some very nice pictures including using slide film. Now whole using the 10D it seems alot of my pics comes up a little soft. I plan on purchasing my first L lens within a couple of weeks and do a side by side comparsion. I do know for a fact that my 50mm 1.8 is sharper than the Sigma. Besides the 24-70 is whats in right now & trust me after Hanging out a local drag strip I had to reposition myself to make up for the 1.6x factor.

I also have the Sigma 24-70 on my 10D and have found that unless I take my time, double check the focus, manually focus and re-focus, it will be a little soft (usually in low light from f2.8-f4.5). I have, on occation gotten lucky and gotten some good shots, but mostly, you have to really be careful not to focus on someones nose, instead of their eyes. Obviously DOF will change as you gain F-stops, but at wide open, it's very unforgiving.
These are taken in the Metrodome (Minneapolis) at 2.8-4.5 at about 1/60, some are good, some are horrible. You can tell the ones I took my time on.
