HI everyone,
I have gone through many of the threads on this subject . But I am still very confused on which to get .
I am sure either will suit me just fine and I will not pick up many of the pros and cons people have been pointing out. But I am looking to get the best bang for the buck and could use some direction from people who know the ins and outs of these cameras.
I did breifly look at the s50 but thought I would not need that sort of cutting edge camera and also I could save a few buck with a s30 or s45.
SO while researching the s45 I had come across some threads of peole saying they thought the S30 took better pics than the s45 . Is this true? I have read about the red eye problems darker pics with the s45 battery life etc.etc and many other pros and cons. But was hoping that a few of you shuuter bugs could steer me in the right direction.I have found both cameras on the net still available ( the s45 of course and yes, still the s30)at what I thought was a decent price . Thank you for your help Chris

I have a s50. I love it. The camera is very functional and has enough options in the creativity range which please me enough until the 300D comes out and I can take a better look at it. In auto-mode, its basically a point-and-shoot so someone could potentially buy it and never even use the other functions and it'd still work out.

Anyway.. on to your question ;)

My friend was recently looking for a digital camera to get. I jumped on the Canon bandwagon about 3 months ago, so I told him he should get a Canon. After scouring through pricegrabber and reading reviews.. we basically singled it down to:

S50, S45, or S30.

S30 - 410.37 // 3.5 stars
S45 - 377.00 // 4.5 stars (best was 389.50 at the time)
S50 - 414.00 // 4.5 stars

stars are for the retailer rating and information was taken from price grabber

The price range is pretty much the same. The s30 is an older model which is a bit harder to find. For that reason its a bit more expensive from the people still selling it (because it can still sell). I definitely wouldn't go with the s30. I mean, its a great camera, but at 3.2MP its a bit less than the S45 or the S50. Pricegrabber actually shows the s30 as being more expensive (as of now) than any other retailer right now, so I definitely would not go for that.

At 377 (After shipping) and 414 (After shipping) being the best prices for the S45 or S50 (respectively).. you definitely have a decision to make that fits your budget. I don't think you can go wrong with either. No camera is perfect. There will always be something that won't suit you.. but you'll learn to live with it. The picture quality on both is brilliant, the lcd is bright and nice (except in direct s unlight). For the extra 37 bucks, I would.. personally, go for the S50. But since you were asking S30 v S45, I'd say S45. :)

Hi

I have an S45 and one of my close friend has en S50.

We are both network admins, so we like FEATURES. We rarely use our camera with the AUTO mode. We use the Full Manual as our daily mode.

I can say that, those two cameras take REALLY, REALLY similar pictures. I don't take darker pictures or what so ever. It just take smaler picture (pixel wise)

Please visit my gallery and you'll see lot of pictures taken with the S45 (they have been resized). I wouldn't say that my S45 has any problem.

How about the S30, I wouldn't go for that one. Just because 3.2mp is not enought in my opinion. (I just sold my Olympus 3020)
