Finally...the White Crowned Sparrows or Sparrow has returned to my yard on its migratory route. The Fox Sparrow appears to have departed, the White Throated remains ( and shares the 2nd shot) and now this guy:D shows up today. A great little sparrow and I got a few shots through a window (open) tripod and late cloudy PM ( just before 6). Hopefully he sticks around long enough for some sunshine shots.

Excellent series of shots, we have lots of white crowned sparrows here, but not the rather pretty white throated.

Nice images Gary; Appears you got a low enough angle for great looking shots. # 3 is my favorite, with a nicely detailed look.

Nicely done Gary! How did they (White Crowned Sparrows) get there without me seeing them here first?:)

Great shots, Gary. The White-crowned is a favorite of mine. Love to hear their song. Especially in the morning after a rain. My favorite is image #3. Looks like the birds are loving those sunflower seeds! :-)

Oh wow! I'm envious Gary. The crown and throat of the white-crowned and white-throated are as white as they can be. You've captured them beautifully. #2 is priceless. It would be nice to have wider DoF to include the white-throated but i understand the light condition didn't allow that.
Nice job Gary.

I think these are great. I wonder if the "sunny ones" will be able to top these....great detail and composition

Very nice Gary, I captured one the other day but I did not know what it was. I will post it too. I think it's the white throated, that I got.

Hi.
out the window + bad shooting conditions = Great shots :)
I like # 3 best, IMHO a little more room for the tail.

Dennis, I checked my guide and it seems while they are common in the west they are less common in the east. Zip they must have snuck by under cover of darkeness;) Ron in regards to the sunflower seeds...these ground feeders never go to the feeders but will go underneath them:D
Thanks everybody for the positive comments.:D

Beautiful shots. The poses and level of detail is excellent. I have a few of these guys around but the weather has been awful so no good pics.

Great sparrows Garry!
Love these guys and their songs.
However, there seems to a hint of blue around the whites of their heads..maybe the lighting??
Nevertheless, excellent series!

Well, I missed this thread it until now. I prefer the last one here. Very beautiful species of sparrow. There is a tremendously miniscule amount of fringing on the head of the first one, and you really have to look for it...but I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for Marc, so you can blame him:lol: .
You may now retire the thread.;)
