Welcome to the forum Emperor. Looks like you have a nice ride there.
You need to limit the number of embedded images to six or eight and just post the URLs for the remainder of the images. Now there are way too many for those with dial-up or even slow DSL.

My wide lens is the EF-s 17-85 IS. It gives me excellent coverage for a 2 lens travel kit. I also believe that the EF 17-40 L or the EF 16-35 L would be good zooms.
I also believe that Sigma and Tamron make wide zooms that work well. I prefer the versatility of zooms but my wife really likes her primes. And endless debate.
I suggest you read ALL the stickies in the EF lens section then ask the questions in the lens section.
Thanks for reducing the number of embedded images.

I think as far as ultrawide goes, not many could argue that most of the primes *stink*. There's tons of nice zooms out there, such as the Tokina 12-24, the Canon 17-40L, the Sigma 17-70, etc. etc. If you want to get fancy, and have some cash to spend, take a look at the 16-35L and the EF-S 17-55 2.8 IS. You may even like the Sigma 20mm f/1.8 EX. Very nice prime, and wide enough to shoot cars with on a crop cam like your XT. You can get one of those for about $350 new/used. Price doesn't seem to drop much on it, used.
Good luck, and nice shots!

will the 50mm f/1.8 do welll for automotive pictures?

I'd only use the 50 for profile shots for the longer perspective, & probably not at all for car show pics. Most of the time you'll need a wide angle so you can get close & bend the car a bit.
The 1st year, I used the kit lens with the 300D & it worked OK if you kept it at f/8 & above & used a tripod for the very low light shots.

welcome and nice evo I also had a WW evo 8. I see your on socalevo.net I was on both socal and the sister site norcalevo.net (live in norcal). First off the first two need to be turned counter clockwise just a tad, I got caught on that a few times and it does make your pictures look just that much better. good luck and keep on posting your pictures. I wish I could by another one:cry: .
