View Full Version : 10D File Viewer Utility doesn't work properly in XP

In Preferences, under RAW Image Processing setting, I can't change the Model Name to EOS 10D. It's stuck with Powershot G1. I try to make the change, click OK but nothing happens. I go into Preferences again and it goes back to Powershot G1.

Is this a known problem?

It was working fine with Win2K. In fact, it was EOS 10D by default. But it just doesn't work with XP. I've already tried installing and uninstalling a few times.

Should I consider using a different program for converting CRW to TIFF or JPEG? What are the benefits of this? Right now I don't see why I should pay for more software if the one included with the camera would work.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Did you install the 10D WIA driver from the EOS CD-ROM? Unless the 10D driver is installed, FileViewer Utility won't know about it.

One way to verify if it's installed or not is to check "Add|Remove Programs" in the control panel.

Yes, it's installed. I tried uninstalling and installing a few times too. The 10D also comes up on the File Viewer Utility when the camera's connected.

I'm on my Win2K PC right now and I've just noticed something. There's a drop down menu that let's you select the camera. Here, "EOS 10D" is selected. However, I have a feeling that on the XP machine it's "Common Processing".

That may be it. I'll check later... (silly me!)

It looks like I misread your problem the first time. I thought you were talking about the camera selection at the top of the main screen.

Anyway, in my Preference panel, in the "Raw Image Processing Settings", EOS 10D is always showing. However, I can change this to Powershot G3 and then change my settings for the G3. The next time I go in to this panel, EOS 10D will show as the camera again. However, if I select G3 again, the changes I made for it is reflected. In other words, don't worry about the fact that EOD 10D isn't the camera that's initially selected since that's irrelevant. As long as the setting you set for your camera shows up properly when the camera is selected, that's all that matters.

Thanks!

No, you didn't misread my problem. I'm the one who didn't really understand what the problem was. I was trying to get the 10D specific toolbar and instinctively went to Preferences after not finding the option under View.

I didn't realise that I simply had to change Common Processing to EOS 10D.
