Here are a few shots of Rose Tattoo from The Bridge Hotel in Sydney. It is one of the hardest shoots I have done in ages; the lighting was abysmal but I am very happy with the results as is the band's manager.

Nice energy!
How did you convert to B&W? I have a feeling there is 'more' possible...
If you are on a Mac, give Lightroom a try for b&w conversion.

I converted using CS2 - either destaurated them or used the B&W gradient map and played around with brightness and contrast. I don't use a mac. The images looked better before compression - you can check out another here (http://www.blackshadow.com.au/photo25870.html) that is probably better.

good subject matter richard...and looks good in BW..I would be tempted to give them a high contrast in colour if his tats are in colour? These guys need to be really gritty..I think I went to the bridge in 80's and saw the hippos..thanks for your comment, tj

Lordy, I have no idea who they are but I can smell the sweat through my monitor. Nice captures although I think the conversions could be better ... there is a great Q&A tutorial on B&W over in the Talk About Photography section ... long, but with tons of very specific examples and explanations. I think it is a sticky so should be stuck near the top.

Dwight, you might recognise the singer, Angry Anderson, if you had the misfortune to see Mad Max 3 about 20 years ago as he had a cameo in that. He might even inspire you to get those tattoos on your arms should you ever shoot him yourself ;)
