Hi,
recently, i took fews pictures in motorshow, everytime when i take the photos, i found that the flash on a70 juz fill up part of the photo and the flash range is quite near to the object. Is there any possibility for me to add additional flash for the A70? I knew the A70 doesn't have hot shoe build in.....I need a further flash range for the A70?

Thanks

You may be able to use a slave flash.

Some flashes can provide slave capabilities (such that when they sense another flash has gone off, they trigger too.) If you have one of these, you can then put your camera on an adapter which will hold your camera, and the flash, or you can have them seperate.

Turn your camera on to aperture setting, set your new flash to match the aperture setting (so it shuts down after creating the correct (it thinks) exposure.)

When you trigger your camera, both flashes will go off within the exposure. Your camera flash being the fill flash, and the trigger for the main flash.

Without the shoe, you loose any hope of TTL flash, but you can still slave it (and others) When buying, be mindfull of any future upgrades you may do (buying another camera with TTL flash shoe...)

I'm thinking of getting one of these:

Both are slave units... IE, detached flash units with a built-in sensor that detects the in-camera flash and fires simultaneously. No connection needed, but a bracket which screws into the tripod socket and has a flash shoe would be helpful to hold it in position.

Sunpack:

Quantaray:

They're both pretty cheap, and you probably get what you pay for... but at that price it wouldn't hurt much to try. Anyone have any experience with either?

PS, found another one:

I tried this out the other night. I have a Nikon SB-26 flash that has a built in slave. I had never used that feature, but switched it to slave and put the A70 on manual 1/60, f 5.6, set the flash accordingly and it came out perfect. I zoomed out all the way and held the flash up with my left hand. It was far enough away from the lens that red eye wouldn't be an issue and the entire room was lit up. I'm going to have to experiment with the automatic mode on the flash, as well as aperature priority and shutter priority on the A70.

By the way, can someone tell me how fast the flash sync is on the A70?

Thanks,
Bill

Is there any Canon salve flash available? I am lookin for one, or any good slave flash? I went to the shop and the sales person there recommend me Sakura Slave Flash, the brand likely never heard before and the range is quite short about 8 feet only, therefore I did not get it.

That's a good question. The 420 says the following, "Fully compatible as an affordable Wireless "slave" flash, with EOS-1v, EOS-3, Elan 7 / 7E, & D30", but I'm not sure if there is something specific that it only works with those cameras or if you can use it as a slave with any camera. You could get a little external slave unitl that would plug into just about any flash you want, like this one... http://porterscamerastore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=13-0399&Category_Code=F3L
