I took the new WP-DC700 case out for a test run, only on a boat for water-skiing. Its lucky i had it on because theres alot of spray from the back of the boat that came up and hit the camera. But the lens was realllllllllly dirty. I even put the hose on the lens (WP) when i got home, and i looked at it today and all the dirt is still there. I cant use the same lens cleaner for my A70 cause it will dirty it really bad, any ideas on how i can get rid of it without damaging the WP lens?

When i saw lens i mean the glass thats in the fromt of the case, i am aware it has no focusing ability.

Here's what I would do. Close the case, submerge it. Let is soak for a few minutes (to loosen any dirt, salt, grim) then while it's still in the water, gently use a soft cotton cloth to remove the grit. Do not reuse the same portion again as trapped grit may scratch the lens. Rinse the cloth if needed.

Don't use solvents of any sort (unless specified in the manual as the chemicals may speed up the break down of some plastic or rubber parts.)

After it's out, use a soft cloth to gently dry it (to avoid water spots forming.)

Thanks, i'll have to do it during the day tommorow i think so it will dry alot quicker, unless leaving it for that long will make it worse to get off.

Reckon tissues would work? there the softest thing i can think of, but dont want little part of them to break off when scrubbing.

A bit of cotton cloth can work. Lint-free tissues (Kim-Wipes) can work (but not facial - too much lint.)

In a pinch, your t-shirt may be good enough (no, not that oil, beer and pizza stained one, the one fresh from the laundry.)

to cA70,
i think u should use a blower to blow the dust from the lense first then only clean it with special cleaning cloth from camera shop. The dirt on the lense can damage the lense if you apply pressure on it by using the cleaning cloth, it will scratch your lense.

and I have some problem here, hope u guys can help me with it, there's a dust particle inside my LCD screen, i mean inside the plastic COVER on the A70 lcd screen. how can i get rid of it? is there any possibility to remove the plastic cover and stick it back with double sided tape?...juz my idea.heeh.....

thanks

Is it just water spots dried on? Then just soak a cloth with warm water and place it on the spots. After a few minutes they should just wipe off. Then lightly rub with a soft cotton cloth. Then when on the boat next time, just give the glass covering the lens a quick dry every so often, and moisten and remove any dried spots before they spoil any shots.

That case must be nice to have.

stopbath: Dried water thats brown. Alot of dried sediment aswell i think. I gave it a go with the hose to get rid of most of the junk. Just a few little bits left. Will try the warm cloth i think tommorow before i go out (day time).

cheewooi: this stuff was stuck on prety good. i saw the little blowers in the shops that blow air down the middle of the brush, i think that might work on the final sweep over, but not the intial one. Thinking of picking up one of those little kits soon.

Next time it happens i'll take a shot of the outside of the case to u know how bad it really is.

Yeah it's a little beutie!

It's just a shame i never put it to its real use under water. Mainly used for boat, tube's and ski's. But i couldn't do that without it though.

But i never look back because i got it for $0. They stufed me around alot with my camera so they threw that in, if i paid the $350 Aus i would be doubt full whether i'm geting my money's worth.

I'm glad you got the case, but it's sad you had to go through what you went through to get it.

Question is: did the bribe work? Are you still a customer of the store where you bought the camera after they stuffed you around? Or have you said "Thanks for the case, I'm going someplace else now..."

hehehe, theres also another bit i didn't mention.

The sales guy, though he was top stuff, did all the calculation on paper, well he can't add up right and knocked quite a bit off the whole purchase.

I ended up with $200 cards for $150. So i went back into there other store and gave them the docket, they had to honour it, but they refused and gave it to me for $160. So that's the only reason i went back, it's not the stores fault, not the managers, they were the nicest. just the sale people were the ones who make u not wanna go back. I dont know if the case came out of his commision but in the end he never got it after some docket switching so i dont know who paid for it.

I think he didn't like me cause he never spoke to me again when i came in, and he orderd me the WP-DC600 by 'mistake'.

But one last point, i wen't round and NO WHERE had the A70, only 1 store did and its because it was there first lot in, must of been delayed.

I even ended up getting the tele converter really cheap off them after they sold my camera to someone else.

I talked to so many of the staff that there were different sotries for everythign and it was so easy to catch people out. "Yours is the first order on the list, the next one is a month after you", "oh there were people actualy waiting longer than you but we gave you there camera", i dont see how because they sold out the day i bought it.

the best was "someone was waiting longer than you (like above) so we gave them the camera", but turned out to sell it to someone who waited 1 week and came in there yelling.

The A70 will only give you 15 shots per set of batteries was the best!

So in the end, if the price was the same at two stores, i go else where.

We'll i tried the camera cloth i have fromt he camera store, that didn't work.

So now ive got it sitting there with warmish water on it. I didn't know how hot incase it did damage.

Its hany that theres is a small few mm rise above the glass, so when sitting upside down i can just put water on it and the rest of the case is dry as. Maes it alot easier to work with.

Then i'll dry it with soimething, leave in the sun (or is that how the spots occour?) and try the cloth again, will report back.

Well i finally cleaned it.

There is a little 'pool' above the lens generated by the ring around it, so put it on its back and u can put water on there and not have to worry about a bucket.

I used warm water and left it over night. I then re-ran warm water over it again and with the softest towl i could find wiped it dry. (help that its a dam hot day).

Then used my lens cloth and not it good as gold.

Thanks for you help, i couldn't keep on goign round shooting with the glass that dirty.
