Hello

I am new to this site, and am a rank amateur

(not sure if that will work, so here's the link as well)

Green Park in January (http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3040)

I took this photo in January, in Green Park, Central London. The camera I was using had a repidly failing battery, and it was very definitely a case of "point and shoot" before the battery died.

I like this image, but don't think it is very good, technically.
I would appreciate your comments (I am under no illusions about my expertise)

Brightend up, this might be a really cool shot (pun intended).

The shot is a bit dark for a snow. Try lightening it up with a graphics program (levels and curves...)

The folks on the immediate right should be removed (painted out or cropped out). They are a distraction.

Interestingly there are two trees ovelapping. It looks like one tree, until you look at the trunks.

Since batteries fail to perform in extreme cold weather, you can try keeping your batteries in your pocket to keep them warm. Insert them when needed (not easy with mittens or cold fingers.)

This is a really nice subject. I agree with Stopbath's comments, but I would personally have tried to include the folks on the right in the shot as they add more interest, to me. I would probably also have tried to include the base of the tree.

Overall though, a lovely shot. Almost makes me miss London in winter... almost (I am now in Australia).

Suzie.

PS - your embedded image did not work, your link text (between the img tags) should be "http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/data/500/541P1010176-med.jpg"

I can't help but say it either, Cool shot! :D
I'm not sure about the people on the right. I don't think they make or break the photo.
What I do find though is that this may be better viewed in B&W. A touch of USM may also bring out some contrast between the forground tree and the rest of the photo.

Hi dp1. I hope you don't mind but I liked your image so much I had a play with it. I cropped out the people on the right because I think if you do not have them completely then they are indeed distracting as stopbath said. Apart from that I played with the curves, desaturated and sharpened.

Let me know if you want me to remove this.

Hi,

I think it's better when it's a bit brighter, but you sharpened too much.
My idea about snow-landscapes are : bright (because of the snow) and dizzy (except when the sky is bright blue)

Like the picture, but have a few points:
- would like to see more contrast
- might sharpen the shot
- miss the bottom of the trunk of the first tree
- can do without the people on the right
Don't know if I would have done better though if my butt was freezing off.

Hi there dp11,

In my opinion the picture would be perfect without any people in the shot, So i had a little try in PS :). I know my editing is a bit dodgy so if there are any pro's out there that wanna show me how its done, be my guest :P

Congrats on the great photo btw :)

Regards

Aaron
