This is a tiger that was at the Cape May Zoo.

I was wondering, is it OK to sell pictures of animals from a zoo? Just curious. I wasn't sure if a "model" release was needed :lol:

I think it depends on the zoo. At our local zoo, you DO have to ask permission for any commercial publications and our zoo gets royalties depending on the project. Do you have any photos you want to sell?

I was thinking of this picture as a possibility. It is a bit crisper in "real life" than it is posted here. If I decide to, I will definitely contact the zoo- wouldn't even mind paying royalties- it's an awesome zoo and it is free (they do accept tips and I hope everyone who goes there leaves one!)

I'll be honest with you, IMO you would have trouble finding a buyer for the photo. It's not a terrible photo or anything, but it does look to me like a typical tiger in zoo shot. You can see the wire in the background as the bokeh is jagged and creates that kind of zig zaggy feel, and the composition is a bit "off" - not enough of the tiger. As you say, it's hard to tell re focus sometimes because of so much compression but it does look a bit soft here and lacks contrast.

I hope you don't mind me being honest.....I do find it serves better in the long run than constant "good works" as that doesn't help people in improve.

Very far from pro, heh.

I do sell my dog photography. And I have sold some of my zoo shots privately.

I've never seen your photos though :)
