Was at a festival the other day and really liked this picture.

I like long exposure shots like these.
I've also seen some before, where a bit of flash was fired to freeze the subject, but keep the shutter open in order to capture the light.
Guess Poi is a term used widely? And not just in NZ.

if you get another chance, try using second curtain flash sync if at all possible, it'll keep the trails, allow you to make the light source a bit darker, and also have a more exposed subject (sharper subject too usually). nice shot though haven't seen one like this on this forum in a while ;)

a lot of people at my school do poi and fire-poi, so yeah, I think it is quite a wide-term.
