I recently bought a G3 and experiemented a little bit...

I like it... Nice job! When I first got my 10D I tried some similar shots. It took a lot of patience :D You can see my result in this thread:

It is a very convincing shot of a water splash. I have not tried "hi-speed" shots like this, so I cannot comment on alternative techniques -- but you will see some ideas from prior posts if you search.

I might align the horizontal a bit.
