I'm not done uploading pictures, and I'm not so sure the layout is done... I like a very clean layout, but is this *too* clean? What would you change?

Comments are appreciated before I post-process and upload another 200 photos... Thanks.

Looks good, did you think about putting a slide show in the beginning though or some sort of single photo? kinda like an intro to abook?
The photos are great! The only change I would do (which you already said) is to add more photos. I think it's a good start.
Questions, do you know why the font of your name in the corner appears to change when looking at different pages?
edit: maybe add a place for comments or guest book

Thanks Andy. The font changes because you caught me in the middle of things. Soon after posting the above I looked up some customization stuff and started changing things. So I thing I posted the above a bit too soon. Now that I know more can be customized, I will be changing things a lot.

FYI I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to CSS, HTML, etc...if someone wants to learn me, that'd be fine. HAHA

I haven't uploaded a lot of pictures there yet because I'm still not exactly sure on the final design of the site. But the basic gist is there. Let me know what you HONESTLY think. Even if you think it's the worst site on the internet and should be taken down forever! Seriously, I've got broad shoulders and critiques are the only way I'm going to be able to learn this stuff.
Here is the site:

Let me know what you HONESTLY think.
I really don't like the red outlines on the photos and galleries. They are too distracting. Mellowing it to a softer red might help, but red is one of those colors that draws the eyes away from everything else.
The font used on Pricing Information is not very readable in my opinion. The smaller lines, like "*Maternity sessions...", are completely illegible to me. When I got about 9 inches from my monitor I could read it. Maybe a non-bold version of that font?
Other than that stuff, I liked it. Works well.

Well I've done a lot of work over the weekend trying to get it looking decent.
http://scottes.smugmug.com/
Any comments are appreciated.
Too boring?
Slideshow too big/slow/fast - or does it just plain suck to have a slideshow?
Anything out of whack on any gallery?
Do you miss having a "Galleries" page, with a thumbnail per gallery?
Any comments - be harsh - are appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the input Scottes. I've now changed the red to black. And as for the price list and the "about" section, those will be changed later this evening.
As for your site; it's very nice looking. It's also easy to navigate. I do have a question though...how did you completely remove the Smugmug footer? I like the cleanliness of it like that.

You can't remove it, so just make it the same color as the background:
/****** Makes minifooter the same color as background ******/
#cobrand_footer .nav {color: #303030;}
You do need a theme with a consistent solid background color, but you have that.

Looks good. There are a couple of changes I'd make though if it were mine. I see that you allow people to view original files. These are huge files and I see that I have the option to save the file.
If the site were mine I would limit the size of picture that is viewable, cut the option to save the image and I would also disable right click. I know it's not full proof in protecting your images from being stolen...but it will definitely help...especially if you're trying to sell your images.

You raise good points here....
The large file sizes are from when i first set up the website, i just put up full size copies..........bad move i know!
Now i re size the photo's to 1072pixels long size at 75% quality in lightroom.
The right click protect, is something i'm not happy about, its mainly because all my school friends (im only 16) expect all the photo's free, and when i do disable right click they get annoyed and tell me to take it down.
I do completely agree with the things you have said though.
Thanks for your input :)

Here's mine: http://www.sso-images.com/ (also linked to my name below).
I created this just to manage increasing requests for photo shoots from friends, neighbors, acquaintances, etc. and NOT as a side business. I just hate dealing with "what should I charge to friends?" type of issues, so I decided to let my SmugMug account do the transactional issues while I just shoot. I don't want to say "no" to photo shoot requests coming from friends and there are enough requests that I don't want to do for free, either. SmugMug came to my rescue perfectly for my situation!! So I didn't spend much time trying to make my site fashionable or sleek. Just a very simple one to manage photo shoot requests and avoid dreadful headaches...
Ditto. I have had opportunities to take pictures but I hate the "how much do I owe you?" I have had the (pro) account for over 2 years.
The thing I like the most...I can view the pics from smugmug on my iPhone very nicely. I am not a fan of the jazzy flash sites with the music.

Front page is too tall, resolution wise. Try to prevent vertical scrolling for users with a 1080 vertical resolution. Ditch the default footer. The header is also kind of bland (a very popular design amongst smugmugers). Your shots are good, though, and that's what counts. ;)

The site loaded quickly for me. That said I think your banner photo may be to big for people who don't use higher resolutions.
On my laptop screen (1280x800) every time I click on a gallery when it loads it takes up over half the page using Firefox.

I use Send to Smugmug. It has right click shell integration which I like, and if the upload fails, it will just ask if you'd like to retry from the point of failure, which is convenient. It's the best batch uploader I've used for Smug so far.
There is no "fastest" way, in terms of upload speed. You're limited to your ISP there. I usually do my uploads overnight, and I can average about 2 gigs per 8 hours.

I agree - it's very nice looking! It helps that your photography is beautiful, too. A couple of ideas - the framing around your slideshow does look "generic". Maybe you could put something more edgy around it. One other thought might be to take the wording off the right side of the slideshow giving it a bit more of a minimalist look. I like the blurb at the bottom and the site is easy to navigate.
I wish I had to motivation to try and customize the look of my site, http://photo-art.smugmug.com

Thanks for the kind words and advice inthegarden and Canon_For_Life.
I wish I knew how to add a custom border such as a frame.
With my limited knowledge of HTML and CSS I have only about 4 different kinds in my bag of tricks. double line, solid line, ridge, and maybe one or two others.
Many of the sites on smugmug are a single centered slideshow and I wanted to avoid being like the crowd a bit.
It looks as though I will have to do a bit more research on the border thing and see if I can come up with something a bit less generic.
Thank You,

Thanks - your site looks great and the photos are amazing? How did you get the slide show happening?

I prefer to have my own domain. All smugmug sites are not yours. Smugmug controles it and smugmug owns it. Your title site has been forwarded to smugmug and that means you have very little change to get seo ranking. When I do a google search for some name, a name.smugmug.com will not show up.
These sites are good for storing pictures and letting your friends and family know where they can find your pictures. But when you want a business site, you better start having your own domain and a related email address. I created http://LetPicturesTalk.com and email is Ronny@LetPicturesTalk.com

Nice site Ronny! SmugMug actually has great SEO for our users.

It's all about keywording your images, getting the right meta data in there, and having links to your site/photos posted in blogs and forums like POTN. All of these things are done by the user and that's what really makes a difference with SEO.

I have my own domain and a non-Smugmug website. I created a sub-domain for my Smugmug site. Smugmug doesn't own my site, domain or the sub-domain....I DO. ;)
