Just wondering if Canon routinely announce new models at a particular time each year, say, every September for example.

This would help me to not expect a new model until then, etc.

(Thinking of a 5D but can wait til the years up for a new model)

Announcments normaly come in February and or fall months like september/october every year. I'd wait until september atleast.

its normally every 18 months for that line, eg 300D - September 03, 350D - February 05 (18 months), 20D - September 04, 30D - February 06.

That means you should expect a 350D upgrade this september

I think his question is related towards the higher spectrum.... the 5D was announced in August or Sept of 06 and it is general consensus that either the next generation for the 5D or the 1D series will be announced around the same timeframe.

It's anyone's guess right now, but Canon will likely announce a new high-end camera in late summer.

So with that in mind, the 5D is not yet one year old, so is unlikely to be updated until Spring '07?

The 5D was released on Aug of 05, available for sale late Sep/early Oct 05.
So if with 18month cycle, I'd expect the replacement to be announced Feb 07, with delivery around March/April 07. However, Canon doesn't follow the 18mo cycle on the 1D line, so they might not with the 5D either.

Well I've stumped for a 5D now, so Canon can take their time. :D
