Hi,

I want to enter the DSLR world. Since my funds are not limited I want to buy a used Canon D30. I think that it is better to inest more in quality lenses than in the camera because even the newest DSLR will be outdated in less then 2 years.

I am considering to buy the Canon EF 70-200 4.0 L or the Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX HSM APO.

I guess that the Canon L lens will have the better optics whereas the Sigma has the larger aperture. I will do a lot of aviation photography so speed will be of some importance.

What would you advice.

Thanks

Robert

Why not try the Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6 non IS USM?
The pic below was taken with it.

You can always upgrade from there. :)

Hi Robert,
I have a similar problem, I currently have a D30 and a Sigma 75-300 DL. I do some aircraft photography (military not civil) as well as other sports. I took some shots at Donnington park at the weekend (http://www.hockeynuts.me.uk/photos/donningtonpark) with my D30 and a friends Canon 75-300 IS but I really wasn't impressed with the number of 'soft' and out of focus shorts I got. Where does the fault lie? My eyesight (used AF though!), the lens or the body?

I'm now trying to decide whether to upgrade the body to a 10D or buy a Canon 70-200L lens. I have a Canon 20-35L already and the image quality is superb but knowing the improvements in the 10D over the D30 electronics I just can't work out which way to go!

Hopefully, some kind folk will give us both good answers.

James
