your comment and question is based upon ONE store/supplier being out of canon lenses. perhaps there is/was an ordering problem, a shipping problem. Is any other store experiencing the same problem/shortage??? Check around and perhaps you will answer your own question. As for here in Indy we have plenty except for the 17-40mm f4L.

I know I am part of the reason they are out of some lenses. ;)
Sorry! But, I'm a happy-shooting-camper. :D

What lenses do they not have? L glass ot regular EF glass? I guess demand is high.

I'm really not sure but compared to last year at this time they do seem to be out of a lot of lens. I have heard rumors about a new 500 DO f/2.8 and the 100-400 being reintroduced with new generation "IS" but I constantly see 400 f/5.6 being out of stock. ...and thats one I really want to own.

This is just a rhetorical question but I'm wondering if the recent Canon lens rebate program could be taken as an omen of changes coming up in the Canon lens lineup, like new or improved lens models, etc?
Everytime I'm ready to buy a big ticket item and then the company starts offering rebates for that item I want to buy I start wondering if that item is going to get obsoleted in a matter of weeks or months with a newer, more improved model.

Great lenses, great place to buy them. Bought all my Canon glass there this year.

Perhaps B&H is an insider? I also noticed that B&H was out of L lenses.
I think Canon is replacing most of its L lenses. Here are the reasons. Optical technology may have advanced vastly using chips. Maybe Canon is developing new L lenses using improved programs.
1. Canon replaced 70-200mm L with its IS version.
2. Canon replaced 28-70mm L with 24-70mm L recently.
3. Popularity of DSLR requires ralignment of L lens array.
This means we should stay away from purchasing L lenses that were produced some time ago, say more than 3 years ago, and get only the lenses that were recently introduced.
