Well, not exactly. The family and I decided to get out and visit the local flower gardens. The weather was great, and we had nothing to do, so we made a little picnic out of it. I was largely there to take pictures of wife and young daughter. I will say that I am NOT a birder as my main subjects are my family. While walking thru the gardens, this fellow landed on a post, so I figured what the heck and snapped off a pic. Enjoy

Lens - Sigma 120-300
Aperature - f/5.6
Shutter - 1/200
Focal Length - 209mm

Species - Black tip Gray Birdicus (okay not really. I have no idea what its name is, but you guys are all scientific in here, so I felt like I had to blend in :) )

I'm glad you did take this shot, when having a picnic.

What a good angle on this bird in this good looking enviroment.

Is it a mocking bird?

A really nice picture, the mocking bird almost looks as if he's daring you to take a shot before he flits away.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure that it would be better if he was looking towards me, but it was so spur of the moment, so I took what I was given. I should have known it was a Mockingbird as they are the state bird of Texas, for gosh sakes. (I repeat, I'm not a birder :) )

All in all that's a pretty good shot. You got the entire bird, the eye, wing bars, classic tail-up pose of the Tennessee state bird. (and several other states I've forgotten) :)

Nice composition, as well.
