First time shooting such a large event. Teams were fast and lots of paint was fired. I got shot about 10 times and my lense took 3 hits. After about a half hour of cleaning, my gear looks brand new again.

Gucci was popular

In the heat of the game, you sometimes can lose track of where the paint goes in.

I thought the mirrored lenses were cool

"Were you trying to hit me with that?"

One of the hazards.

You seem to have captured some good moments. I especially like 3 and 5.

I have always wondered where abouts you shoot from in these type of events. I would assume it's on the side lines, in which case I'm curious as to how the photographers seem to get hit so often from, what I would imagine to be, some pretty skilled paintballers. Just Curious.

6 is funny as hell... maybe a slightly higher contrast will help darken the uniforms a bit and draw more attention to the nut shot

I'll bet you're in the thick of the action, not on the sidelines.

Great shots all. Tell me, how do you look through the viewfinder with the big mask on? You do wear a mask, right?

In these types of events you are limited to the sidelines so that you dont interfere with the game at all. Most hits happen when a player is moving up the side, and he happens to run in front of you, and someone on the other team across field sees him. Then the guy lays down a stream of paint trying to hit the running guy, and you are left standing rught behind where he dives to the ground. There was a decent amount of running around involved, to get the good shots, and to move out of the way of the good shots.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. Im open to critique too. I have a lot in mind for next time I head out, but Im always open to other peoples opinions.

A mask is necessary.

Seeing the viewfinder is hard to get used to. Even now, I still sometimes have to think about what is in the frame. I can only see 1/2 of the viewfinder at any given time. I try to get the center focus point and one corner in view, and I can usually judge where the rest of the scene will end up.

Greetings Ryan,

You got some really great shots….the promoter of this event e-mailed me that he wants you back at the next event. I should have your gallery up in a few days onn www.paintballphotography.com

Mark if you are shooting a 1D Mark II you might consider the following focus screen, it is very helpful when photographing while wearing a paintball mask..
