I'm having a hard time digging up information on this lens, as it has just recently become available in stores.
How does this lens compare to Canon's 28-135 IS USM lens? What is the image quality like?
I have the Canon and feel the Sigma might possibly be better for me because of the 77mm filters (compatible with my existing filters), 24mm wide angle, and the faster aperature.

I have no experience with Canon 28-135mm. I have found mixed feelings about this Canon's lens.
I used to have a Sigma 28-70 F2.8 EX in the past and it was a very good lens. I really like its sharpness and how nice it captured the the colors.
This new lens is very close in sharpness. The pictures that you see above are without any touch up, just resized and that's it.
I have not been able to find reviews on this lens either since it was introduced to the market on Jun 2003.
I will be receiving a Canon 50 1.8 soon. I will try to do a comparison in sharpness.
Thanks,

Typical sigma i say
Very clean, lowish contrast and very slight softness that i've noticed it in so many sigmas.
All in all very good

If you want close up pics of small items (great bird shots!) like many religious items and relics, a macro lens could be useful.
Here is one example:

Thanks all for your replies !
I will probably get a macro in the future. I wanted to start with a flexible range lens not very expensive, so this was an interesting option.
I have confirmed that with no big effort I can turn the pictures out of this lens to be crisp and sharp using PS with no vissible loss of quality. Most of the times I would not needed unless I am printing higher than 8x10".
The colors are also great.
The lens is also fairly fast and not as noisy as my previous sigma 28-70.

Here is the link to the Sigma site with all the info on the 24-135. I bet it works very well with a current Canon camera like the 10D

Did you find performance comparision charts
for the Sigma?
I was initially interested in the Canon 28-135mm IS
but the Sigma is some 40% cheaper.
Anyone.?
