A friend of the family has a Minolta XG1 that he used a long time ago when he did wedding photography. Anyways, he's offered to sell it to me if I want it.

It comes with 3 or 4 lenses, flash, bag, and some other odds and ends. I believe its about 1000 worth of camera/equipment. I think he only wants about 200ish for it all.

So my questions are, anyone know about this camera? would it make a good starter/backup body? And what do you think about the price, is it a good deal or should it be less because of how old it is? (still works, I was fiddling with it today)

ANY opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Crystal

Make sure you inspect the glass on those lenses... Depending on how and where they've been stored, there could be fungus inside and you'll have to ship them to Minolta for cleaning at your expense. If the glass is clean and everything looks in great shape, go for it... You can always sell it piecemeal on Ebay later.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have the camera to try out for a lil while and a couple rools of film, does anyone know if 200 - 250 would be a good price? (I don't know about how the price changes with age)

Thanks!

Depends on the lenses and flashes. Generally, if he shot weddings it should be good stuff... but then nobody monitored him.

I'd say go for it. You'll have a film system for 250 bucks and you'll probably be able to use the lenses on your canon as well. (That I'm not too sure, it may be olympus instead)

The shutter might die though, since it probably has lots of clicks on it.
