i did a search and found lots of different suggestions for wedding albums, but I saw an ad in Rangefinder for Candid2000.com and was wondering if anyone here has actually used them? Someone on another forum commented that the templates were kind of cheesy, but I wouldnt be using them. I'm more concerned with the quality of the printed photos and the album itself. any recommendation one way or another would be appreciated!

I have a info package from the and like what I see, however I feel its pretty expensive specially for the client area I have. Most of my clients are on a budget and an album of 24 pages for $200 is way out of budget for them.

So far I havent offered albums just because of the expense. My client area just is in general on a very low budget.. thats why they book me, knowing that I am less experienced than other photographers but am affordable for them and still deliver nice work.

Anyway, I recently purchased a album through Shutterfly, something fairly cheap (added up to about $35 for 22 pages) to see what the quality is like and if I could offer this.

To be honest, I really dont think they are too bad and the client would be able to get this kind of album for a fraktion of the cost.

I've been using them for almost 3 years. Excellent quality, fast turn around. Use their ROES software.

you are using shutterfly for wedding albums ??? wow. i couldn't have been less impressed with them. For a family trip or something I guess, but for a wedding?

I think you really need to think about what your'e offering. I know every bride and their family say they hve little to no budget, but its your job to convinve them that those images are going to be the only thing that lasts past the day. If need be they could skimp on something else or have them set up a pamynet option.

Candid 2000 lab is excellent, software is easy to use fairly quick turnaround, and excellent customer service the templates are not that bad plus you can custom design your own.

Just what I was going to say- I ordered a album through them just for family stuff and was quite disapointed. Good words coreypolis.

I've used Candid for prints but haven't gotten any albums from them yet. Those of you who have used them... have you gotten the Legend or Destiny albums?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so I hope that I'm not asking a stupid question. I've looked at the candid2000 website and I can't find the different between the Tuscany and the Destiny flush mount album. Is the different between the two only the design of the pages? I was hoping to design my own albums with Photoshop instead of using their templates, so I'm not sure what the deal is here.

The Tuscany is a digital album, not a flush mount. It's more like a Zookbook. And I've signed on with the company and plan to use them. They aren't as expensive as Zook or Pictobooks, and from what I've heard, their products are great. Previously, my customers have just wanted traditional albums, but I think if I have a studio sample this book will fly with them. And you can't beat the 3 day turnaround for albums. :)

Liza..."Tuscany is a digital album...not a flush mount....more like a Zookbook." I'm puzzled by your definitions. How are you defining a digital album? and why would you not put Tuscany and ZookBook in the category of flush mount albums?

Thank you for the info liza... although I'm still not sure what a digital album is. I guess the only way to find out is to order a small version of both the Tuscany and Destiny albums.

I suggest that the term 'digital album' refers to the way the layouts are designed: digitally, on a computer, magazine style, each spread usually built from multiple images...finally resulting in a 'digital' collage printed as a single image.

The term 'flush mount' refers more to the way the images are mounted in a book or album: flush (back-to-back) to each other or to a sub-strate between the two prints on each side: no mats, no border, full bleed to the edges of the page. The print "is" the page surface. The altrernative to a flush-mount album is usually a matted album or an album where the images slip-in from the top or side.

Some people also make the distinction of a "coffee-table book" vs a flush mount album. Though usually most people use the term coffee-table-album to mean a slimmer volume with ink-on-paper pages rather than photo prints mounted to a board, there really seems to be no concensus on the strict meaning of that term.

FYI: I left a message for Candid 2000 customer service so they can tell us the difference. And by digital album, I'm referring to one like a Vision Art book with the photos printed on thick card.

Here's their answer, and I must say, I'm glad you asked this question, as the reply was not what I had assumed. Their Tuscany album is not like the Vision Art book at all, so I may be looking elsewhere.

Elizabeth,

With all of our albums we print on photographic paper and then use an
adhesive
process to assemble the pages. The Destiny album leave a 1/16" space
between
the edge of the print and the edge of the page. The Tuscany album has
no
space,
it is a true flush mount which means the pages are trimmed so that the
print
comes all the way to the edge of the page.

We have some examples of our album at our web site, www.candid2000.com
if
you
will click on the Albums option you will see images you can
double-click on
to
show more detail.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Have a blessed day,
