I have a problem with the 640 video mode on my A70
It only records at around 7.5 fps and fills up the 16mb
card in about 30 secs
I contacted Canon and they said that 15fps can only be achieved with the 256mb card.
I also have aDane-elec 128mb card and still only get
7.5fps on this
Are these cards too slow. The manual says the 16mb
card will hold 14secs of 640 movie so this must be at
15fps.
Can anybody help?

I don't see why the size of the card should effect the fps. The only reason i can see is so u don't fil it up as quick.

All video's ive teken have been on a 256mb so i can't coment. What about the 16mb that came with it?

If you get 7fps on that and the other people on this forum get 15, then theres proof its the camera and take it from there.

I aint home so i didn't bring my camera with me so many someone else might eb kinda enough to do it.

Would be interesting ot see results on your and other camera's witht he 16mb.

I took the camera back for an exchange but the exchange did the same thing still 7fps but was also
scratched so I got a refund . I may get another as I
am not too bothered but would like to see the full 15fps
video so will need another card prob a 256.
Could anybody tell me what card they use and whether
it allows 15fps on VGA mode. Perhaps a fast card is needed. I thought my Dane elec card would be fast enough but it isnt
Does anybody actually use the VGA mode!

I just got another a70 from a different store and a bytestor 256 card but the 640 movies are still under 7fps perhaps the card is too slow
Can anyone tell me what card works iwth the 640 mode
at 15fps.
This camera is scratched on the lens barrel too but not as bad as the last one and the screen was not stuck down properly but perhaps if I can get the video
working Ill put up with this. Im not taking the protecter
off yet though
I am in the UK so the available card are probably less
than the US

[imghttp://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/images/cf_transcend_256mb.gif[/img] (linked from dpreview if dont work)

transcend 256mb and i get 15 fps, have u tried the 16mb on that comes with the camera? if other people get 15fps on it and u get 7, then u know where the problem is.

I use Transcend 256 & 128 cards & 320 setting & pleased with quality.
Much better than I expected.
If you havent tried it, suggest 320 is worth trialling.

Yes I tried the 16mb one and it did the same but the camera said it had 14 seconds before recording but recorded for around twice that!
If the movie is recorded to the memory in the camera
first I dont see why the card speed matters or the size
. The 320 movie are ok its just the 640 . I am not likely to use 640 much anyhow but may bo an special
occasions if I can get it to work smoothly
Thanks for your help. I may try another card
Is your card faster than mine which says min 1.2mb/sec
I got it from amazon.uk for £40 they also had a Lexar 12* for £52 and a Viking for £42 all 256

My A70 atm in un-usable. I have 3x256mb cards and the 16, and there all full!

I'll have to get roudn to taking them off one day.

So i can't test it for u.

How do you check the fps of a movie? in zoom broswer and right click for props? or can it be done with the display on the camera?

I'm still trying to get to know my camera(A70). My question is, how can you tell if its really running at around 7.5 fps? Maybe it's running at around 15 fps?

Zoombrowser > right click movie > properties >

Movie
Recording Time (thinking how long it is)
Frame Rate (BA BING!)

I think I have solved the problem. Canon confused me by saying you needed a 256 card to get the maximum
frame rate. Infact it was quicktime player that was playing the movies at half the rate as other players will play it at full rate but they look more blocky.
This is either because my pc is too slow or because my version of quicktime isnt up to it.
I tried the movies on a couple of other pcs and one
did it at 7.5fps but the fastest one did it at 15fps both on quicktime.
So the camera is working fine and recording 15fps on all the cards which means canon are wrong about the cards and their manual is also inaccurate
I think any card will do. Canon say they can only recommend canon and sandisk cards
To find out the playing fps as well as the recorded fps
open the movie in quicktime and click on window and
then show movie info then start the movie.
The rate should hover around 15 fps if your pc is fast enough . I am not sure though if it the pc or quicktime
yet

Dont get met started on canon help people, the last time i rang up needing to know a yes or no question about voiding a warrenty, they told me "i don't know, i guess u could".

Wonder if they will beleive me if something goes wrong and i try to claim, but cause he "guessed".

And did u know that the A70 can't do anything with USB at all, not like remote capture can take picturs or anything.

I reckon people shouldn't ring up the help line and come on here, u get better answers.
