is there any good place besides B&H to get lenses and stuff, B&H has been out of the 400mm 5.6L for a while now and I am ready to get it.

I've heard good things about Adorama, although I've never purchased anything from them. I see you're on the West Coast, so did you check with Samy's? They seem to have a pretty good price schedule, although you'll end up paying sales tax. It's ironic that we have to buy from dealers 3,000 miles away to get the best deals.
I love my 400mm f/5.6L. Everytime I use it, it just about knocks my socks off with its clarity. My only mistake was buying the 2X extender---it makes the lens pretty difficult to use effectively. I think the 1.4X would have been a better choice initially. Also, I hope you have a really good, rock-solid tripod.
Good luck.

I almost forgot one of my favorites:
Canoga Camera. Pretty good prices, pretty good inventory, very helpful counter people. I've bought a couple different things from them both online and in person. Check 'em out.

Wow bestpriceaudiovideo has the 17-40L at $699, about $100 less then most other places. Since I'm about to get one, is this place reputable?

I have been using Adorama for several years and find their prices are usually less than B&H. I ordered the 100-400 from Adorama about 4 months ago. Excellent service and delivery on time. Below is a direct link:

Do not fool around with any grey market items.
I think this is the best lens that I have ever had.

A small retail outlet near me has offered $750, so I'm going to go with that ... rather give my money to the little guy. Can't wait...

Boy, I wish we all had opportunities like that. I've always believed in supporting local merchants whenever possible. Unfortunately, lack of inventory and/or non-competitive pricing often forces us into the clutches of the big mail-order houses.
Good for you. I hope the dealer appreciates your business as much as you appreciate the convenience.

My wife and I were headed to the La Brea tar pits and got turned around. We went by Samy's in Los Angeles and decided to stop in. We ended up picking upa 17-40 L. They are running a No Tax deal so we got the lens for no tax and no shipping @ $699. 00. The real strange thing is that price is a hundred buck below the web site price. I haven't been to Samys before, but was very impressed with the people and store. You have to like a cmaera store that takes 3 full floors to put their products in. We will definitely be going back again.

I am about 40 miles from Samy. Maybe I should give them a visit.
I bought many A/V stuffs online from www.onecall.com and have been very happy with them.
They will also pricematch with any other online price.

I have to admit, my wife is pretty cool about this stuff. Of course we both share the hobby so that makes a world of difference in trying to convince her of needing new gear.
From what the guy at Samy's said, the sale is on through next week.

I just went to Samy's this morning and the guy I talked to said the in-store price is $799.00, just like on the web site. He had no idea how you managed to get one for $699. He also said they are out of stock.

Wow.... I double checked the receipt. The $699.99 was actually rounded to $700 it looks. I got a bit worried and checked the warranty is a fyll USA warranteed product. It says the salesperson was Jay. So maybe you can call him direct to get the deal. My receipt shows as a canon item CANO8806A002. email me direct and I'll give you more receipt info if it helps.
Apperently it was a "lucky" day for me. Hope they honor the price for everyone else who may ask.
Also, since I forgot to put it in the original post, the Samy location we were at was the Fairfax Ave store.

I'll have to go back there if I can get a chance and make sure I talk to Jay. I really want to get this lens, and it sure would be nice to get that same deal!
Yes, it was the Fairfax location I went to, also.
