Hello! I'm a newbie here and I figured that with all the knowlege oozing from this site, someone may be able to help me :)

I've just purchased a TC-80N3 timer remote to use with my 20D, and it appears to be faulty. The LCD screen is blank, though the shutter release works just fine. This one is a replacement for the 1st one I purchased, which had the same problem. Is there something really obvious I haven't done, or am I just unlucky with two faulty products? I've changed batteries, rung my supplier and Canon, and haven't had any luck so far ...

Sounds faulty - mine has the screen on all the time, as there's no way to turn it off (as the batteries last so long)

Has to be defective. I do dislike that I can't turn mine off as well, but my battery has lasted 14 months so far.

is it me, or when you first get the unit, there is a plastic seperater for the battery and the contact? Need to remove it before useage? ....

From memory, you have to open the battery door on a new TC-80N3 to bring it into operation. I can't remember whether you have to fit the battery or remove some kind of plastic spacer.

It's certainly worth opening the battery door and checking that there's a battery present without any kind of plastic wrapping.

Thanks for all your input - it isn't defective at all, it's owner is just blonde! I had the darn battery in upside down, it doesn't go in face up ....
