Soon to be First Wedding Shoot

Im scared. i was asked by the singer of one of the bands i shoot to photograph his wedding, and i have really no idea what to do. i have a good friend helping me out whos shot a few weddings, but anyone have any key advice? much appreciated.

If your not charging the couple, just enjoy it and have some fun! If you are charging... RUN! No, just kidding. I have only completed 3 weddings to date. My first was my brothers. I was very nervous about that, but all turned out well.I had been shooting portraits, and small events for sometime, so that helped.

Have faith in your photographic ability, read through this wedding forum (a great wealth of info.,) and just do it.

I'm not sure about what your photography experience is, so it's hard to give advice. Tell us a little about your background. Have you been in photography for long? Are you new to photography? Give us more info. and we can probably be a bit more helpful.

ive been serious with photography for about 7 months been at it for about 10, but i shoot almost everyday so i got some stuff under my belt. i am charging them, but only 200. ive read through some of the stuff on here and yea its pretty helpful, and i got a buddy shooting with me whos shot a few weddings, so all things considered, it should be a nice quick death and not a drawn out painful one lol.

I have one coming up in a month... being prepared helps. I've started shoot lists, gear lists, have a rough shooting schedule for the formal shots, a list of requests from the bride, a list of composition styles that I like.. a shooting buddy who's going to help.. i'll have my laptop on hand for quick downloads and i've made her very aware of what my experience level is... and i'm being paid enough to compensate for the extra gear i'm buying and the loss of pay from the 'real' job that i'll be taking off from good luck, it will be an experience to say the least.. For all I know after this one i'll decide I hate it and go back to simple portrait shoots..

we'll here's my two cents ...

1. get backups, backup body, backup lenses, backup flash, backup batteries, and backup CF cards. just so youre covered!

2. learn to use AI Servo -- really helps when people are walking towards you all the time!

3. use fast glass -- some churches dont allow flash photography! bump up the ISO and use maximum aperture. IS would be nice!

4. use manual WB, and shoot RAW if you can. that way, if your WB or exposure is not spot on, its not the end of the world.

5. try to blend-in -- i was once told that the best photographers are the ones who can take the shot invisibly! ;)

6. have fun! it is after all, photography!
