Hi there,
I'm a fairly new owner of a G2 and have taken some resonably okay pictures. I've recently started experimenting with RAW mode the various linear filter techniques available for the 16bit TIFF output formats.

I realise for the D30 that there is an adavantage to using 16bit TIFFs over 8bit TIFFs, but is this also true for the G2 ? Am I just wasting disc space using 16bit files, or is there an appreciable advantage to using 16 bit files, and the linear modes in particular ?

I'm unsure if the variations I see are due to the post processing I'm doing to the image, rather than any additional information to be found in the TIFF.

comments ?

Gordon

answering my own post - surely bad form but:

I can see the advantage of using the 16 bit files over 8bit files, particularly if you do multiple passes with the levels commands in photoshop. There is a lot more colour variation left using the 16bit (10bit really?) files.

Now just not clear on the advantage of linear 16 bit over 16 bit. Any pointers ?
