Hello:
I have the opportunity to start taking some people portraits in clients homes (children and families). I thus need mobile flash equipment.
I demand excellent results from my equipment and the photos they take. There is such a wide arrary of artifical lighting available, I need some help. I have a 10D with some L glass, but have not bought any flash eqiupment yet (this was a recent upgrade into digital photography, I had an AE1 and A1 with that I have used for around 20 years).
As I see it, here are some of my options (I would like comments on each of these as to the picture quality, and the pros and cons of each one (complexity, cost, etc)):
1) use a speedlite transmitter ST-E2 mounted on the camera, use two slaves such as the 420EX (or 550EX) at front angles to the subject (or I can use a three flash system withthe 550EX on the camera with two other slaves at angle) No umbrellas would be used here
2) can the 1) combination (Canon equipment) be used with umbrellas or some other way to soften/even up the light? Softening filters on the speedlites?
3) fully dedicated umbrella system (I do not think Canon makes anything here). How do I get the flash duration and aperture correct: I know this is most complex, but how is this done since this combination is not integral with Canon equipment.
Space me be of a concern. I guess the bottom line is which combination offers the best pictures with minimum space requirements. Also, please suggest any other combination I may have overlooked.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
