I just purchased an s50 after my wife accidently dropped (and killed) our s30.

I seems to me that the time the s50 takes to focus is MUCH longer than it was on my s30. And when it needs to refocus, it goes in, comes back out and then finds its mark, i dont seem to remember this much activiity refocusing on the s30.

maybe i'm crazy, but if there is in fact something wrong with the camera i need to return it and get another one. Perhaps this is just a reality of the s50 and i need to get used to it. Maybe there is a setting i am unaware of.

Anyone out there know what im talking about?

Yes I just got an S50 and I agree that sometimes it can take a while to refocus and find its mark, especially indoors.

I also own a film SLR camera and the focus on that is similar, so in some ways I am already used to it, i still have to go through much of the manual for the S50 so I can't give any solid advice other than I think it is probably the speed at which the camera focuses.

you may be able to find out more details about the focsuing here
