Since I have posted so many pictures of lenses that have been damaged during paintballphotography, I though I would post an animation that made from a local tournament last week end….

Note in the middle of the animation there is a ball fired right at me. This one missed the lens but struck me squarely in the head...at least in did not hit anything important this time...

I am sure by now everyone on this forum must wonder about my sanity in the pursuit of this type of photography

I don't know, I don't think you can shoot pictures without your head...

Man, that is really distressing considering I think it was you that posted the broken lens shooting paintball... but it is a really cool shot.

ever thought of wearing a large banner that says don't shoot? or maybe a custom made bayonett mount lexan paintball filter with built in hood?

gif turned out pretty damn good, though if you could try to crop it in such a way as to remove the camera movement, that would be amazing

It is sort of difficult to stand still when someone is shooting at you!

Too True!

This shot is AFTER these two shot at me, they're pointing at me saying "That big white lens must not be a paintball grenade launcher"

I got more welts when I had my camera than when I had my gun this weekend. 300+ people on one field and 2 photogs walking around in the middle of the field. I might have to rethink this one :)

That's pretty much the only time I got shot as well- when a player was running past me, and another player was "strafing" to try and tag him... and I just happened to be in that arc somewhere.

But really, to get a good shot, you have to be somewhere forward of the guy's muzzle. Photos from the back or sides typically aren't as dramatic as one where the viewer is only a few degrees off the barrel axis.

And yes, typically anyone on the field and not as a player has brightly-colored "I'M Not A Player" clothes- yellow or orange goggles, a striped black/white ref jersey, a bright-red T-shirt, a neon-safety-orange construction vest with reflective lettering...

But you're still gonna get shot. :D

On an "airball" field (the big inflatable concept field bunkers) the paint will bounce a surprising distance. It's common for a wild bouncer to land in the parking lot at our field. When you get two guys peppering a bunker so a third guy can rush him, at 12 to 18 BPS per gun, that's a lot of paint going hither and yon.

Doc.

As I continue to post pictures of people shooting at me I am become somewhat worried that my fellow sports photographer will begin to question my judgment and or sanity…:p

BYW this guy got me twice in the head

haha it shows dedication :)
Some good shots well done, can't be easy to catch them at the right times.

If you question your own sanity then you are OK. This is great stuff and the rest of us really enjoy it as well as not having bruises!

i meant take the pics you already have, and crop off the edges that aren't the same in every frame. might make the overall pic smaller, but it'll give the effect i was talking about.

the more pics you post, the more it makes me think that lexan may not be enough considering how many time you get shot at...
