im quite pleased with all the testing iv being doing although i missed lots of shots as trying to decide when a bird will take off is not at all easy lol
1dmk2 500f4isL 1/6000sec f4 iso 400 and camera set on 8.5 fps thers no doult this setup gets you the shots you would otherwise miss.

Those are great shots. You must have spent a lot of time studying these birds, not to mention all of the missed shots. What lens were you using at what distance? I recently was trying out my new 400mm f5.6 and tried to capture some swallows. Tricky. They are so fast and so unpredictable. Even at 1/4000 they sometimes appear blurred.

I like the first photo the best, but both are well done!

Very nice shots. These are so hard to catch in flight. Love the shadow on the ground in nr. 1. Very well done.

Making it towards faster birds, aren't we ?:D
The house sparrow is a difficult one to get. Good job an the starling too.

I hear Dimitri is practicing bird tracking/panning on some chickens and roosters. Gotta start from the foundation first I suppose.;)

Today I could not spot any fast & worthwhile birds, so I'have been polishing my technique on a bumble bee. No keepers though (yet).:D

These are fairly small birds to capture in flight and these look pretty good. Nice ones!

These are very good shots. Catching them in flight and seeing the details in the wings is excellent.

The first one is especially nice - given the added bonus of a great shadow image beneath it.

Fantastic job!

the main thing is to try to antisapate what they are going to do im wrong most times lol but just delete them and have another go .
another trick is to focus then turn AF off often this works because when a bird flys say of a branch normally it flys the way its faceing in a stright line for the first second or so ,if its going to fly left put the bird in the far right of the viewfinder .
most birds do a little crouch a fraction befor the leap THATS the time to shoot .
