A few weeks ago I posted photos of a male red-bellied woodpecker boring out a nesting cavity in a dead tree roughy 30ft from my house. Here's the thread...

And here's an update - the 2 seem to be sitting on the nest now, in shifts. Below is a photo I took as the female returned to the nest where the male was pulling his shift.

A very nice behaviour shot. I hope to see something similar this year although its not likely to be this species as it seems we are north of their range. You are fortunate to be able to witness and photograph what may be a family starting. Looking forward to some updates.

Nice job and make sure to keep us informed on there progress. I'm working on a similar project but with a much bigger woodpecker.

Great capture, all I have are little Nuttals woodpeckers.
