Has anyone been able to use ACDSee to download from the G3 - I note that the G2 has an interface! I contacted ACDSee and their suggestion was as follows:

"The best way to access your digital camera from ACDSee is with an ACD Systems plug-in the make and model of your camera. However, there are not always plug-ins for all types of digital cameras.

To see if there is a plug-in for your make and model of camera, please go to:
www.ACDSYSTEMS.com/English/Support/ProductUse/dcplugins

If there is not a plug-in for your camera, there are a few ways to browse and view your images with ACDSee.

A) If your camera has a USB port:
Close ACDSee.
Connect your camera to the USB port on your computer.
From the desktop, double-click My Computer.
Check if the camera was added to the list of removable drives.
If the camera is present in the list of removable drives, open ACDSee, click the Folders tab in the Browser, and select the removable drive.

B) If the camera manufacturer supplied a TWAIN driver for your camera:
You can use the ACDSee Acquire function to download the images to your computer. For more information about acquiring images, please consult the ACDSee Help file.

C) If you use the Windows Me operating system:
You can try using the DC_WIA plugin provided with ACDSee 4.x and higher. For more information on camera plug-ins, please consult the ACDSee Help file."

Thanks in advance

I don't actually know what ACDSee does but maybe it would help if you put your camera into PTP mode, then you could use a more generic interface to the camera.

The G3 simply doesn't work with ACDSee. If you persist in trying you get a "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" warning. Doesn't matter if you set it to PTP or Normal, if you try to Aquire or just see your camera as a drive... none of it works.

If you turn your camera on (review) then connect it to the computer Windows will see it as a new device and will look for drivers... only problem is there aren't any drivers so that's not a brilliant solution either.

Many thanks for the answers - pretty much as I expected. Pity tho' as ACDSee is a good programme and hopefully in time they'll update it for the G3.
