Well, for the opening bids being asked ($1060/$1170), I do think I would wait for a bit or just buy a 10D. What's the point in paying nearly the same price for the Rebel Digital as you would pay for the better camera? Granted, you get a lens with it but the lens is not usable on any other camera. I can remember early D60s going on ebay for $2500-3000 when they first appeared. Needless to say, I bought from somewhere else.

In other words, the price is high.

If the bundle is supposed to cost $999 in the camera shop, then a good eBay price would be $899 - 949, as the seller has lower costs on eBay (no shop, no salesforce, no assistance, etc...).

If a new item in the shop is not more expensive then the ebay price plus 10 %, I definitely buy in the shop where I can go, ask questions, try it out and return it if it proves to be defective.

So if the item is even more expensive on eBay, then this is the 'early buyer surcharge' that only those who REALLY need to have the camera now, will willingly pay.

Just my 2 cents...

Andy

This looks like abit dodgey. How did someone that seems to sell mostly clothes come to have a not-yet-released camera??

Prices in Germany are already going down....

List price:
body only: EUR 1099.-
kit with 18-55: EUR 1199.-

lowest offer for the kit on eBay is EUR 1029 (that's 14 % discount).

Lowest offer from mail-order-house is EUR 985 for the kit (-18 % vs. list price) and EUR 905 for the body (-17.5 % vs. list price).

... all the offers are 'you'll get it as soon as it's available around mid-september...'

For comparison, the 10D costs EUR 1,435.- at the cheapest mail-order house making the gap about EUR 530 (that's 58 % more expensive than the 300D body)

Now wouldn't it be nice if the 300D went down in price like the prosumer digicams (G1 - G5) did before???

But then, maybe it's just a result of the ridiculous exchange rate (899 US$ vs. 1099 EUR makes 1,22 EUR per US-$) Canon set for this camera...

Andy
