Most of the mobile photogs who I see at the Shopping centers (malls) have stuffed toys and small square pillows. Maybe a fluffy rug or something would be good too. Don't over do it but you can play with some bright colours to make it good. I guess it depends on your target age audience of people you are shooting. Those were directed more towards babies. If you want to get even more into it you could have themes like a friend of mine got her baby dont in gumboots and a tool belt with a little plastic hammer and screwdriver etc.. So it s like a mini builder theme.

the photographer I work with uses a large van and that holds mostly the equipment.
his props consists of small wooden bench, a couple of pillars, one short and one about 3.5' tall and some other small things. He only takes the props that are appropriate for the shoot that we are doing.
We also print onsite with a couple of dye sub Kodaks.
here are a couple of shots from one location we did showing the setup,,

If someone wants a infants pic most of the time they will have the car seat with them add a nice throw or blanket over that put the handle down VOILA instant baby prop.
Put a pillow under a blanket and you have another prop.
I know the pro places like in the mall they have baskets and some tables that have backs that pull up and slant this is so the baby can lay on stomach and look like they are pulling up.

I have done kids pics for the last 5 years for companies, and am now going out on my own. For infants, get a cloth baby bath seat from Wal mart, its 6 bucks, fyou have to prop it up in the back and then put something under there legs so they don't slip, or tummy pictures, ducktape up a few phone books(I use these to prop up the baby bath seat) to make a ledge, cover it with a bath mat and cover that with a blanket or drape. Feather boas and hat boxs are great for girls and soft sports balls for the boys, also a cowboy hat and red bandana are great! Take a look at www.heathernix.photosite.com, I have some props shots there.
