I wonder if there is anyone who could tell me what makes the image quality much better in the considerably more expensive Canon 30D compared to the 350D. I am an amateur photographer who at this stage mostly consider the image quality and care less about "extra features". Don't know if it is worth the extra money for buying the 30D considering the image quality.
Anyone with advices?

Greetings,
If image quality is your primary concern, get the 350D. You can't spot the difference between the two. Use the money save and buy L lenses. You'll be blown away. Enjoy...

Concur ... Features, buffer, LCD, ISO by 1/3, etc is where the 30D shines. The XT takes amazing photographs assuming of course the front and rear of the body has quality glass and hands

I asked my local camera shop owner the same questions and he told me for the type of work I do the 350D was the ideal choice, and I would be able to add an additional lens and still spend less than buying the 30D without extra lenses. The features I will use are on the 350D so that's what I did. Got the 350D and an additional 55-200 mm lens.

As stated above, they're pretty equal :D
Unless you need something in the 30D, get the 350D - thats what I did :D

I bought the 30D for handling and facilities rather than IQ over the 350D. My 350D and 30D shots are not different. However, a compromise could be a bargain 20D either new or SH at around the £550-600 range in the UK. Again, IQ will be the same but you won't need a battery grip to improve the 20D handling. Many do with the 350D, but depends if you're OK or not with the small size.

It's the lens more than the body(and them being both 1.6 crop cameras, are pretty much equal in their specs, give or take a few things, slightly). For most uses, you won't see a big difference.

Image quality is more or less identical. But viewfinder is better on the 20D/30D - which might be important for you.

I agree being an owner of both as for IQ of the two but feature & build quality wise the 30D is way better.

I've owned both and can confidently say that I'm getting way many keepers with the 30D than I was with the XT. I mostly shoot pics of my kids playing sports. With the XT I was getting mostly out-of-focus pics, but now it's the complete reverse. AI-Servo and focus speed/acuracy much better on the 30D, IMO.

i think image quality wise, the 350D and the 30D are very comprable
what puts the 30D ahead is the "other" things though
better viewfinder
better controls
"feels" better
the best thing to do is to goto a camera store and play with both. play with the menus, change settings, try the AF out. if after all this, you dont notice much difference then get the 350D, and if you do notice an improvement, you have to determine whether or not it is worth it to you.

It's defintely the better sports camera.

Wow! That's quite an honest camera shop owner. The shop owners here would have pushed the 30D because of the price...
