Wow.

On top of that, he really looks cool (the existentialist photographer :wink: ).
Does he always dress up like that when he goes out shooting?

Best regards,
Andy

[quote=Andythaler](the existentialist photographer :wink: ).

Ummmm....confusing. I dont get this.

A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one's acts.

existential is sort of an agnostic train of thought stemming from the idea that things are going to happen anyway why do I need to give anything any heed--therefore one chooses not to be touched by anything.

sort of like someone saying--people live and die in war, but i dont care because war happens whether I think about it or not, therefore I am just going to exist while I can exist--sort of a soulless approach to life

I think however that this man is full of life. the lights are a dramatic, or dramatic enough, to convey a tone in the image, he is walking around in a public and attempting (I would assume) to capture some of the moments in life that are happening arround him--Also he doesn't seem to be bothered by a camera being in his face.

A great illustration of existentialism is Albert Camus' "The Stranger"--an easy and quick read.

It's a good shoot for various reasons, the light, the style, the location & the subject.

Good image

Actually he is a pretty stylish guy. A metrosexual in every sense of the word! The shot was taken in an alleyway in Sorrento, Italy. He bought that floppy hat especially for the trip to Italy and wore it almost every day. He was the perfect subject and I probably took more shots of him than I did of some of the locals! :)

I got a question. actually first of all, i love this shot, it's great =)
but my question is, i'm sure you took this photo in really low light. How did you manage to have the photo come out so bright *in respect to the situation* and so clear? the only way i can even come close is to bump it up to say 800 or 1600 ISO, and to really let loose on appreture and lower the shutter speed to say 1/2 second or 1/5second. And my photos always end up blurry in cases like these. It'd be great to get some tips on how u managed to get it crisp sharp even in lighting like that. thanks

First of I was using my 35 1.4 and you're correct I had it at it's widest aperture. Believe it or not I only had to use ISO 400 because of a combination of the ambient lighting and the speed of my lens. This still allowed me to shoot at 1/200s. Then I just exposed for his face.

You need to keep your shutter speed up. 1/2s or 1/8s hand held is pretty much impossible to get a sharp shot at unless you're some sort of freak of nature
