Took this shot at the House Of Blues on Friday night.

I almost trashed it, but after playing around with it; finally completely desaturating it, I find I kinda' like it, in all of its' blurry glory:

Other than someone's excessively large melon blocking the bottom portion of the bass drum, whaddya' think?

The more I look at it, the more I like it...

Steve,

I like the action...I just don't like getting the heads in the shots..makes the pic seem like it was taken by someone at the show and not a "pro". I know your a pro....

The band actually asks me to take shots from the "house". They want people to look at their site and see people at one of their shows. I certainly get shots without the crowd; this just happens to be one which has the crowd in it...

This guy can. I've seen his feet a good four feet off the ground in a vertical leap.

He's a pretty good basketball player, too...

i read the story of the photog who took the famouse shot of Bono of U@ (at the super bowl after 9/11..the shot of Bono holding his coat open with the American flag on the in side) how he was able to get above the croode to get it, was to stand on his canon lens case!

good job with that photo.

If you cropped it at the bottom of the feet, the melon could pass as a monitor on stage.. I like the action of it anyway!

The guitarist pictured just put the picture up on his MySpace.com page, and people seem to dig it.

Funny; I was gonna' trash it...

It is funny, I know I've taken shots that do nothing for me and other really like them.

Well, like I said, if I hadn't desaturated it, I probably would've gotten rid of it. Technically, it's an absolute trainwreck.

But, yeah, one mans' trash...

You just have better taste than the guitarist! :-)

Naw, he's playin' an old-school Gibson Les Paul Custom.

His office is also two doors down from mine...

I like it because it shows the electricity, must of been a treat to see them

The fact that the only part of this image that shows movement is the performer makes this shot money. Pretty good mono conversion, too.

Thanks!

For the conversion, all I did was desaturate it completely. I'm not using PS, so my options are a tad bit limited in that regard.

Glad you like it!

You'd probably have a hard time emulating that shot actually, so don't be so harsh on yourself, it's got something to it :)

I like it. The occasional out of focus image can be a winner.

If I could wish for 2 things in this photo they would be:
1. Guitarist's eye(s) open - nothing to be done about that now though.
2. More separation of the background from the subject to yield a little 3-D look and feel. This could be accomplished in a myriad of ways during post-processing.
