I love my G3, but there's one thing that is not well thought about in it's usability.

My lenscap is falling off very easily. When I carry it around in a normal bag, there are chances that the lens will scratch due to the lenscover that has fallen off. Very frustating when you have a camera with a scratched lens...

An advantage of this, is that the zoom-mechanism isn't damaged when you forget to remove the lenscap when powering on the camera. TIs this the reason Canon made it this way?

Why not taking the camera always in your photobag? Because sometimes I want to carry just one bag. And the idea that I have a portable camera (okay not a pocketsize) that is an advantage above my SLR.

I know of the lensmate adapter with a good lenscap and/or UC-filter. The main thing not using this solution is that I find this to large for my camera. Besides that, I don't see the point using a system with filters and add-on lenses. If I want to carry around with stuff, I'll use a DSLR.

Anyone suggestions on how to protect my lens from scratching?

That's how I understand it. Mine cap is snug enough to not fall off all the time. My bag is small enough to keep the cap on. Maybe you can tape it on or something, if it bothers you that much.

or get a lense adaptor with a uv. problem solved. get the cap for the uv and even if it gets scatched up. a uv costs not too much in comparison to the lense of a g3.

Or, an even cheaper and easier solution. I simply wrapped a layer of clear scotch tape around the bayonet housing where the lens cap slides on. Nice snug fit now, and the cap no longer falls off!

Taping the bayonet housing would make the camera look amateuristic and ridiculous IMHO. (reminds me of the movie "revenge of the nerds", where they use tape on their glasses)

And as I already mentioned... the adapter I am thinking of, but it makes the camera more bulkier.

Aren't here 3rd party solutions? Or an invisible trick that I can do something with the lenscap?

Put a couple of pieces of tape on the inside rim of the lens cap. That ought to be invisible.

Of course, on the slight chance that you turn on the camera without first removing the lens cap, and wind up damaging the zoom mechanism because the cap no longer falls off so easily, you'll have only yourself to blame.

The camera has a feature to detect this. The manual mentions it.

The solution to this is: get a lensmate and put a UV on it. then you will never need a cap.
