Focus stacking? new to dSLR and not sure how to do it!

I've seen many macro shots that have used focus stacking. I've not got my 30D yet, and I'm new to the whole dSLR thing. Just wondering how this works. Just take two consecutive shots with different focus points and then combine them in an editor?
