Hello folks,

Yes, the obvious answer is to start taking pictures.

I am actually looking more for information on the what happens after the shot, what I guess is termed 'workflow'. I am also interested in tips about settings and custom function configuration.

If there is a URL anyone has which can help clear up these issues, that would be perfect. But, to start things rolling, here are a few of my initial questions.

1. Sharpening: What is the recommended setting for sharpening? I would like to get the best possible results from the camera, and so far I get the impression that post-processing is generally more effective (eg: has fewer artifacts) than in-camera processing. This still leaves the question of which setting is the better default: 0 or -1.

2. I'll be using a combination of dcraw and GIMP/CinePaint for my post-precessing, but I am still unsure which is the 'better' colorspace for capture, sRGB or aRGB. I'll be doing the majority of my shots in RAW, excepting possibly 'snapshot' type shots. Mostly landscapes.

3. Other than those two, I am not sure if any of the other processing options are better tweaked in the 10D or with post-processing.

4. I have seen a comparison review of the 16-35L and the 17-40L, does anyone know of a similar comparison of the 24-80L and the 28-80L? (I know the latter will be used.)

Thanks,
warpfoo

I'm assuming you meant the 28-70 and 24-70Ls...

Aside from the extra 4mm on the wide end, which will be very useful on a 10D/D60/D30/300D, the 24-70 seems to be generally regarded as a better overall lens than the highly revered 28-70. The filter ring can be somewhat fragile.

I'd suggest renting one before you plunk down $1250. A great lens, no doublt, but even at 24mm, it's not a very wide-angle fov, and may not suit your needs. Of course, there will be some that tell you to just go for it... there always are.

Oops, I did mess up on the '-80' part...

I had forgotten that I did find that comparison a couple of weeks back. I did re-read again after you posted that URL, thanks. I does seem that the 24-70L has better performance, but whether that performance is meaningful or not, I'll have to figure that out.

That being said, I will pick up either the 16-35L or the 17-40L to supplement the wide end. I haven't made up my mind on either of those either.
