How do you attatch umbrella to 550EX?

hi guys,

I heard all the talk about people attaching light modifiers to their speedlights such as umbrellas. How do they go about in doing that? do tehy simply strap it on with duck tape? or are there nesscessary adaptors?

Another option would be a Manfrotto 2905 "Swivel Umbrella Adapter" and a Stroboframe Flash Mount Adapter - Standard Shoe Type. The combination cost around $42 from B&H, and the quality is superb (diecast with metal repositionable handle, etc).

I just bought two sets of each from B&H for use with a pair of 580EX's. (I also bought two 3363 stands which I really like also).

BTW, Photogenic just came out with their Eclipse "Plus" line of umbrellas which combine a diffuser with a reflective backing which gives a great combination of color balance and light efficiency (important when using non-studio flash units).

Will this impact unit attatch ontop of a tripod?

Don't understand that question. The Impact unit is amazing. I have 3 stands and that will fit on any of them, hold any size umbrella and hold the flash securely. I don't put the unit on a tripod, on a stand.

Thanks for your reply SUzie. What stands do you use? I was wondering if I can put them on Tripods using the Impact unit. Is there a mount on the Impact unit where I can sqrew it into the tripod sqrew?

Stands are really cheap, under $30 if you look. I have an industrial strength one from B&H when I got the 48 inch reflector kit for about $120. You can get stands even on ebay that would work.
