I'm trying to find cardboard to put behind my matted prints when I start selling my pictures at art shows. Does anyone know where to buy it in sizes like 8x10 11x14? I've checked the office supply stores and no one had them.
Thanks,
Beth

I get everything in bulk from Dick Blick. It's cheap and decent quality.

Most printing labs will give some to you for a small fee.

Hi Beth, Do a search on yahoo or google for "chipboard". I bought a box of it at our local paper supply company. It's actually heavy duty cardboard.

If you are selling your prints, you don't want to use "cardboard" behind them. They should be matted and backed with acid free matboard and foamcore. If someone at an art show pulls a print out of a bin and flips it over, and sees cardboard on the back, they will likely put it down as fast as they can, knowing that it was not properly prepared.

Is it just to keep the prints stiff, so that they don't get mangled when people look through them... Or for actually mounting them?
If it's just for public-proofing, why not swing by the backsides of grocery stores? They have piles and piles of cardboard boxes that you can cut up for free.
