Hi all,
I finally made the plunge and got a 10D.
Bestbuy had one so I walked out with it and a 28-135 IS...
Of course thanks to you guys (and 6 months of goofing off at work) I knew exactly what to do with my new toy.
1. Cover the lens cap and shot off a 10sec exposure at ISO100.
Result:
I have one hot pixle with a luminosity of 146. and 4 pixels around that one which were slightly hot.
I figure one out of 6,000,000 isn't too bad, what do you think?
I haven't run the test at a higher ISO
2. look for dust on the CCD: took a shot at 135mm F8 with bright AM sky.
Result:
One small dust speck, another larger "water mark" (dried condensation). Not too bad, but nothing a little PS couldn't handle IF they even become a problem
What do you think
1/6,000K acceptable?
Does having one hot pixel mean you are prone to others going bad too?
I could go exchange it for another at BB, but I'm afraid the next one will be worse off!
(BTW, I hate stuck pixles, hence the user name :))
Final comment:
It's gonna kill me to be at work for the next 2 weeks! I want to be out bonding with my 10D. I think I'll give it a name.....

Yours sounds good to me.
Remember usually there are more problems with the photographer--physically, intellectually, or spiritually, than the camera. 10Ds are almost perfectly built, except a slight indoor vision problem. Have fun!
Take a couple of hundred shots to explore 10D's potentials and limitations before you have shooting events.

Welcome to the fold why can't you shoot after work or on the weekends? buy a flash experiment with the differnt light setting in the house do some macro photography experiment with raw and convwersions. i practicly sleep with mine and I've had it for about 4 months now. I am still learning things about the camera and photography in general.

I think if the hot pixel is not an annoying color it may be OK. I think gray (white eventually) ones are the best- kind of neutral against most real world image material. I had an annoying blue one on my first 10D, and I decided to exchange it.
I had a stuck hot pink pixel on my first G2 at every shutter speed- had to replace that one too.

Can you point us to this hot pixel software?

Congratulations, 10D-mate! Looking forward to seeing your work.
I tested my hot pixels, and also had 1 @104 luminosity @100 ISO. Then I got 4 @400 ISO, so I really didn't mind that. People who see your pictures are probably going to look at other elements (sharpness, etc.) rather than a little bad pixel :) (Imagine somebody pointing at a hot pixel saying, "What the hell happened here, huh?!"...that's not gonna happen!)

This is the SW I used. I even took this with me on a CF card and used it in the store at Best Buy to test the prospective replacement camera when I returned my first 10D (and no they didn't really like me doing this).

I never knew I had four stuck pixel group in my Minolta S404 I have untill I tried the software to detect them.. It's on a lower right corner though, but even now that I know it does exists there it is being hard for me to see it.
Hey, but congratulations for your new camera. Wanna trade? I have one very good minolta here ;-)
