Got the last Digital Rebel at Best Buy in Lynnwood, WA (Northgate Best Buy a few miles away was sold out but I played with the display model) today.

Everything seemed normal until I went to put in my 512MB CF card. I open the CF slot and see a 32MB Canon card already in there! Turns out there are some shots from a S230 on the card, along with a short video taken in what looks like Best Buy. Guess I got a little bonus, but makes me wonder if I should get open box discount instead of a free CF card that I don't really need? Hehe.

So far I like it. Hard to say so far, I think as long as the pictures look good I'll be able to live with whatever limitations it has. Only have the kit lens so far, going to get the 50 1.8 tomorrow. Already called and got my name on the list for the 70-200 F4L. Good thing my birthday is this month. :)

Oh yea, pictures.

The obligatory cat picture, full size included (go through my sig into the misc gallery). Straight from camera (RAW converted to JPG) except saved as level 6 JPG to save space. Parameter 2, so normal sharpening/contrast/saturation.

This is one that was on the CF card that was in the camera. Guess someone had a film Nikon (what's film? who's Nikon? ;)) they wanted pictures of.

The blur was just the Rebel's way of showing it's disgust ! :D

I didn't even realize the Digital Rebels had hit the shelves?

Have fun man, looks to be an awesome camera!

If Nikon is the only thing you're camera don't like, you're pretty lucky! My Minolta DiMage 7i (just sold it and ordered a 300-D (rebel)) can't stand my girlfriend :-P She _always_ get blurry, ugly, eyes half closed etc.. I simply Can't take _one_ decent looking shot of her :/ But my sister took some nice shots of her with a D1, so at least it's possible :) Hope my Rebel like her a bit better than my Minolta though :)

Hmmm.

Good you posted the cat picture as well, as the blurry nikon pic could likely start a 'front/backfocus' discussion again :)

Regards,
Andy

seriously though, I'd take that puny 32MB disc in and demand an explanation (and open box refund). It seems the Nikon pic everyone is laughing about was taken not at the BB store. How can you be sure YOUR new camera did not leave the store to take that picture?
Use this to get at least 10% back from BB.

I might try that. They probably won't have any explanation for it unless one of them knows they lost a 32MB CF card. The pictures on the card were taken with a Powershot S230 so I don't think the Digital Rebel left the store. Some P&S must have done the video. Weird that it would have the card in there, though. The battery wasn't charged and everything else seemed unopened.

The salesman said they got 3 boxes and sold 2 so far, and 'they didn't even have a display model yet'. Some Best Buys opened one for display and only sold 2, others sold all 3. Maybe someone did look at it but there weren't any pictures by the Digital Rebel on the card.

I went and picked up a 50/1.8 lens, it's small, sharp and fast. Pretty good for the price. Went up to Snoqualmie Falls (in light rain) hoping for big flow from the heavy rains earlier but it was normal. Didn't get great pictures, too bright for 'silky' water so they look like snapshots.

Guess you want shots even though I think they suck, hehe. I still haven't gotten the 'wow' shot but it's only been 1 day. Sunset last night sucked.

One of these was taken with the 50/1.8, the other with the 18-55.

Well I went back and got 10% open box discount. I didn't even say which camera, just that it wasn't supposed to come with a card. It was easy...I wonder if I scare them because I'm tall. They didn't even want the CF card back (only fits 3-4 RAWS so its virtually useless).

Then I went and got the 70-200 F/4L and went for some shots. I added 5 new ones to my Digital Rebel gallery. http://www.pbase.com/the_photo_tuell/digital_rebel

They are handheld, some at ISO 400. Only the 2 blue butterfly shots have been edited, just adjusted the brightness +40. The duck shot looks pretty good to me at full size (could be better of course, but for handheld, first day with new lens and second day with camera I'm happy).

Thanks for the help.
