I would like to see whether it is possible to get some guidance from a few of the experienced photographers on here that own/run their own business.
I am currently in the early stages of starting a business. I have nearly completed a website and online gallery, setup a bank account, business cards, name registered and also have aquired a ABN (australian business number). Now I know alot of you will look at my gear in my sig and think - there is no possible way he could start a business with that photography gear! Don't worry, I think the exact same thing! So basically, I want to run over a few things and whether people could suggest the pro's and con's, whether its not suitable or if there is a better option out there. I am all ears!
The business I am starting is going to be prioritised towards sports and motorsports photography. As I begin the life of the business I will only be shooting small local games, things like teenage games (everything from football to soccer). This way I can get experience with shooting and not have too much pressure on my shoulders to perform exceptionally well. Along with this I have come up with the idea of giving out business cards to the parents etc with my website on the card so they can access the photo's of their child/sister/brother etc playing sport and have the option of purchasing it. That will be some of my income to help pay for more gear - the less I have to loan from the bank once the business kicks off the better.
So on those points there - I was hoping someone could tell me whether its along the right lines to get started. I am very serious about making this work and will going to all lengths to do it - I just don't want to fall off the path because of a wrong decision.
Thankyou in Advance to everyone who reads/replies here and sorry about the long post!
Regards,
Andrew Turner.
