View Full Version : Dead Safe...???

Yes, I am shooting in risky areas again.
I named it dead safe for two reasons.
One, there are clean needles which is much safer than sharing.
Two, dead becasue this is where the unlucky addicts may end up.
The colours havent been touched, thats how dirty it is in the area they shoot up.
Any comments, does it have an impact, does it make you think...???

Marty-

This is a subject that interests me greatly. Good luck in your ventures, and perhaps we can get some good ideas from each other. Hopefully soon I'll have some similar material to post.

Thanks Guys,
I try to be careful, but sometimes I try to forget about the risks of where I sometimes shoot....
And xepherys, pm when you have some images to show, I look forward to seeing them.
Cheers

Interesting image but I was in the dark as to what I was looking at. The needles didn't stand out until I saw them mentioned. I still don't relate a spoon to cooking drugs. Perhaps I've just lead too sheltered a life to get this picture.

Not that I'm complaining.

I would expect a good Canon DSLR would fetch enough to keep a druggy going a couple of days.

Thanks guys...
Titus, the spoon is used for 'cooking up' the drugs before you use a syringe to inject them. I am glad you say you didnt recognise the needles, they sttod out to me, but I guees if you havent seen them before then you maybe wouldnt recognise them. Thanks for telling me.
And Superscot, thats my thoughts on my images, I am happy you see them that way, and grateful you replied and let me know.

Yeah, good shot.
Some real filth there.
Looks a bit weird with the brand new looking syringe , but I suppose with needle exchange they have plenty. Don't think they hand out new spoons.
Do you have to time the shots between the thump from your heart shaking the camera? I know I do in dodgy situations. :)

Hey Dave,
there were a few new syringes on the floor and a couple of empty packets.
Now you made me think about it, its funny as I didnt see any used needles.
And it wasn't a clean and tidy place as you can see, may have to look closer next time.
I have to go back to get a better shot of this scene, I was so quick that I didnt nail the focus and DoF.
Funny comment on heart beating, actually on the second time in this building I felt a little more relaxed. But still nervous to be in there.

This is an EXCELLENT shot -- I like the angle, the colors, the focus -- the real world is sometimes a bi%$& and here's a reflection of how some choose to deal w/reality -- definitly provokes thought!!
Nice Job:)

I like this shot...Have you tried saturating the orange of the syringe this might make it jump out a bit more. Also maybe burn the edges of the frame slightly to draw the eye in a bit more.

if you could get an out of focus/blurred 'user' in the background, that would add punch. BUT, I think it would be a bit silly and tough trying to tempt this 'user' shot. Perhaps you can get a mate to 'model' out that shot by just pretending, and place a heavy focus on the spoon and syringe. But I guess that would be cheating.... : )

spoon does not look dirty, or burnt enough, but i would not know as I have no experience with this kind of stuff. only from what I have seen on TV.

Its rough...reminds me of a scary place I never want to end up. It symbolizes rock bottom to me. The needles, the spoon, and the surrounding filth. Good shot.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.
I dont interfere with what I find, I just like to take images exactly how I find them.
I agree, adding a blurred model in the background would certainly add impact, but as listed, I dont move or add anything to the location, my shots are about 'reality'.
Its a sad life for some, and hopefully will make us appreciate our comfortable lives more.
Stay tuned, I have many more images I want to post, but have less free time to pp them for the web.
Cheers

Interest natural monocolor. Look like real bad place to be. Not everything in perfect focus or sharp. Looks real. Looks like film almost and looks like snap thought react to what you see. Like that kind journalism.
