...or at least an attempt to get a decent photo of one. The city maintains a small herd just outside of town and I visited with the intention of getting a few decent photos. This guy was close enough to touch.

That's a nice shot. A little fill flash would help under those conditions.

I agree...but I'm somewhat limited with the G5 I use.I think once I get the 350D and at least the 430 EX speedlite I might be able to improve my results. For now I keep tryin' and learnin'.....thanks for the response. My results aren't as impressive as most but I'm workin' at it and input is much appreciated.

I know what you mean. I just bought my XT--before that I used P&S digital cameras for the past five years.

Fill flash can work for you, though, if your camera has a mode that makes the flash fire every time. I used it here:

with my Z3 P&S to get rid of the harsh shadow on the bird's right eye.
