I'm looking for a photo printer that can print large format pictures....bigger than 8x10.

I would highly recommend Canon's i9900. It's a great printer and the colors jump off the page. I would recommend that you use only OEM ink cartridges. It does make all the difference.

Canon will give you a more vibrant print and it will come a lot faster, but with Epson you get more media choices and a print that will last and last and is more accurate in color.
The r2400 is a great choice, using the latest inks, 13" wide, can use roll paper, print on cds/dvds etc.
the lower version is the r1800, great on glossy, but doesn't do roll paper cutting or use the latest inks.
I sprung for the 4800. Its 17" wide, way faster, doesn't use rollers, uses larger inks and less ink, access to epson pro support etc
at $2k retail it seems out of reach for most, but if you look closely it really isn't
I got the retailer to make it 1800, then it had a $400 reabte, and comes with ~$400 in ink. I sold my old printer for 550 and had 150 in credit at the store, so it amde it less than the 2400.
the ink is much less per ml and produces awesome prints
