:D Ok..was out today by the river and took some shots of rowers..I like the first one..your thoughts on it would be appreciated. I still havent mastered shooting moving subjects as you may notice:oops:

1. bad framing, too much wasted space, landscape format would do a much better job; overexposed on the subject, though attempt on the technique is not had.

2. again, composition could be improved, and slightly under exposed.

Thanks for the comments..The rowers are out everyday so i will go back and try again tomorrow..How can i avoid overexposing the image? Shoot with a higher ISO speed?

From the photo it looked to me that flash was fired. If it did fire, then lower the output. If it didn't, then I would suggest take a reading before and dial in exposure compensation accordingly. Don't let ISO restrict your shooting, adjust it according to the required shutter speed to achieve the final look you want.

1. I think the rower will be a tough nut to crack, as the movement is in more than one direction. It's a bit overexposed, but i don't think you did a bad job in all.

2. Could maybe do with a slightly wider angle, or a couple of steps back, just so you aren't cutting the first girls back off. Nice DOF on this one, if it wasn't for the initial compositional problem it'd be a really nice photo! ;)

Hey scott..thanks for the feedback..I see what you mean on the second image. I didnt really give the composition enough thought. I really want to crack the rowers though .i will have another go tomorrow and post the results. Off out tonight to photograph our local cathederal and bridge as they are all lit up at the moment and look rather striking.

Scott here is another one i took

I think i prefer the action in the previous one, but the composition in this one's much better.

Based on your EXIF data (listed below) 1/8 sec shutter speed is much to slow for moving subjects. Drop your f-stop way down and up the shutter speed to 1/250th and go from there.

Exposure Time = 1/8"
F Number = F32
Exposure Program = Shutter priority
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Exposure Bias Value = -0.33EV
Metering Mode = Average
Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
Focal Length = 300mm

Kev, where did you get the EXIF data? I wasn't able to bring any up for these shots!?!

I'm liking that first image. Only thing I could suggest on it would be to straighten it, unless you were shooting on an angle intentionally.

I think the second image may need a slight tilt too, or that could just be an illusion!?! It looks slightly over exposed too. Stopping it down a bit may have given you a little more detail in the bricks, but on the other hand, you'd have probably lost the roof altogether!?!

1st pic's really nice... Let's see the corrected version then! :D

Where is that Cathedral? It looks vaguely familiar!?!

I tried stopping it down a bit but as you say I lost the roof altogether. The cathederal is in worcester. Its an absoutley stunning building. Im out again tonight..gonna try and get in the grounds and take some more atmospheric shots..thats if it stops raining long enough. I will post the results. I think your right on the tilt..it is leaning slightly. Thanks for the comments they are much appreciated:D :D .

I use OPANDA IEXIF 2, http://www.opanda.com/en/pe/. Load it then mouse over the image and right click. Choose IEXIF and if the exif is embedded you can view it.

I really like #1. The action is great, makes an interesting image that demonstrates what's happening. A bit hot for sure, and probably look better in landscape, but a nice image. Straighten it, print it, hang it.

I'm using Opanda, i just can't see any data on these shots. Strange!?!
