I have a feeling this coot is asleep. I cant be too sure, but that position looks pretty unconfortable.

Hi,
good colors, I noticed from your exif you exposed - 1/3, when shooting black birds, especially when the sun is behind them underexposing looses a lot of details.
You also shot at f/13 but you had a very slow shutter speed, f/8 would have been sufficient and helped with a faster shutter speed or increase your iso.
